Did you know that when rattlesnakes shed their skin, they gain an additional segment on their rattle? While rattlesnakes may be intimidating, they are essential to the environment and help humans in numerous ways. They help keep the rodent population in check, which can help maintain vegetative habitats and limit human exposure to Lyme disease. Learn more about the many native snake species of Pennsylvania and the roles they play in the environment.

In this Science Saturday program, learn about natural history, conservation opportunities, and current research related to Pennsylvania’s snakes.

We will meet in the Weidemann Bookstore and Gift Shop in our visitor center at the start of the program. This program consists of a presentation with activities and a guided nature walk. Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult participant. Please dress appropriately for the weather as we will spend time outside. All ages, families, and individuals are welcome.
